New Service!
3K Bovine Net Merit Panel Testing Service. Genetic Visions, Inc. will offer testing
services for Illumina's 3K Bovine Net Merit Panel beginning in August 2010. The cost of the 3K Bovine Net
Merit Panel assay is $55.00 per sample.
The 3K assay has fewer markers and
slightly less accuracy than the 50K assay currently used in genomic evaluations. Genotypic data generated from test
samples is sent to the USDA where genomic evaluations are calculated and released based on USDA-AIPL's genetic
evaluation schedule.
This test has applications for Holstein, Jersey and Brown Swiss breeds. The terms associated
with the use of the current Bovine SNP 50K assay also apply to the 3K Bovine Net Merit Panel. For more information,
contact Genetic Visions, Inc at 608-662-9170.
Genetic Visions, Inc., tests DNA from cattle to identify genes
influencing production traits, hair color and animal health and viability. Alterations
in the composition of DNA provide "genetic markers". A genetic marker
associated with a trait of interest can be used in cattle breeding programs as a
selection tool.
Genetic Visions, Inc., was formed in 1988 as the research arm of
Tri-State Breeders, known today as
Accelerated Genetics. This subsidiary corporation, wholly owned by Accelerated Genetics, is located in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Concentrated research efforts began in 1986 with Dr. C. Michael Cowan, General Manager
of Genetic Visions, Inc., working in conjunction with researchers
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
